  • Culture
June 26, 2014July 11, 2018

James Davidson Hunter is doing commendable work trying to restore the interest, of Christians especially, in the ‘common good.’  Not a bad thing, but first we have to think about what the ‘common good’ is. 1.  First of all, we […]

Conor Friedersdorf, fortunately declares that children do not belong to the ‘community’ or ‘society’.  Actually, they don’t really belong to their parents anyway; they belong to God, and their parents are temporary stewards of them.  While we cannot say it […]

Why I am not a Communitarian

  • Politics
November 26, 2012January 4, 2021

A philosophy called ‘communitarianism’ has often been proposed recently as an alternative to the growing libertarianism of our time.  This philosophy, they say, can combine social conservatism and economic moderation, as well as potentially reviving an emphasis on the local […]

I was saddened to learn about the death last summer of the Evangelical Christian activist and author Ron Sider (1939–2022). I’ve always found his ideas thought-provoking and have agreed with him in somewhat unexpected ways: https://howardahmansonjr.com/2023/01/ronald-j-sider-1939-2022-on-a-most-conscientious-believer/

Despite weaknesses and economic errors, Ron Sider was a true believer; he didn't care about being ‘trendy’, ‘cool’, or appealing to any establishment, whether the ‘woke’ establishment of our society or the bourgeois establishment of Evangelical churches: https://howardahmansonjr.com/2023/01/ronald-j-sider-1939-2022-on-a-most-conscientious-believer/
