Don’t Blame the Boomers for Everything

Here I affirm that most of the serious structural changes in society associated with the Baby Boomer generation were, in fact, set in place by people far older.  The Boomers, however, certainly took advantage of them!  And we, on the […]

Romans 14 and the Political Divisions of the Church

  • Politics
November 12, 2018May 19, 2020

We live in a time when the classical Protestant church [and, less openly, the Catholics and Orthodox] is often divided over political issues – especially over the character of the current President of the United States.  We have Trumpite churches […]

Trump’s One Moral Conviction: The Deal

It’s often said that our President, Donald Trump, is a man of no moral convictions – except for those related to his own power and ego.  I would quite agree that he seems to have no religion or philosophy.  But […]

There has been some unhappiness among the ‘base’ about President Trump’s recent agreement which might mean the continuation of Obama’s order protecting the Dreamers, those who were undocumented immigrants as children.  Excuse me. Mr. Trump was known for writing a […]

The United States on the whole has seen a rather sudden pivot, or so it seemed, of ‘conservatism’ from a coalition of religious or moral conservatives, economic conservatives [the latter were split into ever lower taxes fiscal ‘conservatives’, and deficit […]

I was saddened to learn about the death last summer of the Evangelical Christian activist and author Ron Sider (1939–2022). I’ve always found his ideas thought-provoking and have agreed with him in somewhat unexpected ways: https://howardahmansonjr.com/2023/01/ronald-j-sider-1939-2022-on-a-most-conscientious-believer/

Despite weaknesses and economic errors, Ron Sider was a true believer; he didn't care about being ‘trendy’, ‘cool’, or appealing to any establishment, whether the ‘woke’ establishment of our society or the bourgeois establishment of Evangelical churches: https://howardahmansonjr.com/2023/01/ronald-j-sider-1939-2022-on-a-most-conscientious-believer/
