  • Culture,
  • Religion
September 11, 2020September 1, 2020
Author: Howard Ahmanson

The Police and the Mental Health People

  • Culture
July 20, 2020July 14, 2020
Author: Howard Ahmanson

What is to be done about the police and the police culture?  Some say ‘spend less money on them’.  Some say what we used to call ‘integrate’.  Some say ‘teach them to use nonviolent coercion, like mental health aides’.  But […]

Anti-White Racist Remarks are Tolerated Because of White Privilege

  • Culture
July 14, 2020April 6, 2021
Author: Howard Ahmanson

In which I argue that it is precisely because of ‘white privilege’ that we tolerate a double standard of ‘racist’ remarks about white people from others; because we aren’t ‘hurt’ as much.  Sometimes outspoken women and men, including college professors, […]

  • Politics
November 13, 2019May 19, 2020
Author: Howard Ahmanson

Author: Howard Ahmanson

There is a lot of intellectual fuss about ‘authoritarianism’ nowadays, because of the rise of Donald Trump and what appears to be the overthrow of traditional ‘fusion’ conservatism.  A long essay by Amanda Taub in “Vox” is the most thorough […]

California Law and Sex Partner Switch

This is a strange story. A man got a woman to sleep with him by pretending [in the dark, I suppose] to be her boy friend. Now apparently if you impersonate a husband in this way, it is rape under […]

Why I am not a Communitarian

  • Politics
November 26, 2012January 4, 2021
Author: Howard Ahmanson

A philosophy called ‘communitarianism’ has often been proposed recently as an alternative to the growing libertarianism of our time.  This philosophy, they say, can combine social conservatism and economic moderation, as well as potentially reviving an emphasis on the local […]

What these war veterans do for each other models what the Body of Christ, especially in smaller groups, is supposed to be like.  These vets are “moving from a highly disciplined environment where violence is normal to an unstructured environment […]
